The name of the Society is "Healing Our Spirit, BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Society". On behalf of Aboriginal person affected by HIV/AIDS, the purposes of the Society are:
a. To improve awareness about the Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome for
Aboriginal communities both on and off reserves through culturally sensitive
education, training and health promotion programs
b. To promote inter-agency, inter-ministerial communications and coordination for
prevention and intervention programs.
c. To provide support and counseling services.
d. To increase access to resources and community programs designed for persons
affected by HIV/AIDS.
e. To support and/or provide adequate housing and hospice services.
f. To advocate and lobby with all levels of government, with Aboriginal
communities and agencies and non-Aboriginal agencies affecting Aboriginal
person with HIV/AIDS.
g. To conduct community-based research on health, social service and justice issues
which impact on Aboriginal person affected by HIV/AIDS.
h. To raise the necessary funds for the above activities.
The funds of the Society not required for immediate use may be kept on deposit in a bank or be invested in such a manner as the Directors from time to time determine.
If upon the winding up or dissolution of the Society, there remains after the satisfaction of all its debts and liabilities, any property whatsoever, the same shall be given or transferred to such other chainable organization(s) in Canada registered as such under the "Income Tax Act" as my be determined by the full members of the Society as the time of dissolution or, insofar as effect cannot be given to the foregoing provision, in some other charitable organization registered as such under the "income Tax Act" and having similar objective of the Society.
The Society shall be carried on without objects of gain for its members or directors, and any profits of other accretions to the Society shall be used in promoting its objects.
Clauses 3, 4, and 5 are unalterable in accordance with Section 22 of the Society Act.
No part of any income of the Society shall be payable or otherwise available for the personal benefit of the members. This clause is inalterable. It is an unalterable provision of this Constitution that the operations of the Society are to be carried out primarily in the Province of British Columbia.
